敬語というのは人間関係を円滑に進めるために重要なものであるというのは明らかである。日本では尊敬語や謙譲語など様々な敬語をうまく使う必要があったり、定型文などを覚える必要もある。学生時代はあまり気にすることはなかった。強いて言えば教授などの目上の方とコミュニケーションをするときに少し気にしたくらいでほとんど知識としてはなかった。正直、社会人になっても研究室の延長的な部分は多分にあるのだが、少なからず外部の業者、取引先とコミュニケーションをとる機会が増えてくる。そういった際に相手の気分を害しない程度の敬語は必要なのかなと思う。ただ敬語というのは使えば使うほどいいというものでもなく、ある意味リスクを減らすために使うという意味合いが強いのかなと思う。社内でも異なる部署の方とコミュニケーションをとるときにはきちんとした敬語を使うべき。例えとして「分かりました」はダメで「承知しました」が推奨される。「今から、行きます」というのも望ましくは「ただいま参ります」とかのほうがいい。しかしこういう教科書的にはそうだろうなということもある程度その人との距離を近づけていきたければ、あまり硬い敬語はよくないのかなと感じることもある。やはり敬語というのは自分と相手との距離をとる手法でもあるので慇懃無礼という言葉があることから自分とその人との距離感を計りながら敬語レベルを変えていくという高度な技術が望まれる。
まぁこんなことをつらつらと書いたが、全くその域には達していない。何なら日本語の書き方から勉強しなければならないことを痛感する毎日である。特に仕事のコミュニケーションはメールが多い。つまり書き言葉で相手と意思疎通をしなければならない。このブログでは箇条書きを使わないこと、記事のレイアウトの適当さなどそこまで読み手に配慮できていないが、意外と仕事でのメールは読みやすい体裁に気をつけてはいる。いやー色々とまだまだだね。
